When I first received my Real Estate license I decided to join a small private brokerage. I started on a 85/15 commission split and no desk fees which was in my untrained mind GREAT! The downside was that there was minimal training and no lead generation. However I was still excited and full of the promise of great things to come....THEN...reality set in. I was not going to get a paycheck until I closed an escrow....which could be months away IF I was lucky enough to get a buyer or seller to work with.
With that in mind I realized I needed to have a second stream of income while I worked to grow my business...so I kept my full time job and tried to do both. Without being able to focus on marketing and growing my pipeline my real estate career stalled quickly!
Then I received a call from someone in Las Vegas asking if I would be interested in speaking with the broker at the local Exit Realty office because they were interested in growing the office. Of course I immediately asked about the commission split and desk fees at the brokerage. There were no desk fees but the commission split started at 70/30. Why on earth would I want to consider moving? But alas, I agreed to meet with the broker to at least hear what they had to say.
Within 15 minutes of our conversation starting I wanted to know where do I sign up!! The business model of the entire corporation is built around correcting the TWO major downsides I was struggling with in my career....Digital and Social Media Training and a second stream of income to bridge the gap between closings!
WOW!! That blew my mind! I immediately signed up and began taking the training classes as well as started a recruiting campaign. Within a year I had 3 recruits and a nice second stream of income with a plan to double this year.
